Halloween Treats CAN Be Good For You!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

This morning I had frost on my car! Reminding me of childhood Halloweens in Colorado! I am hopeful however for a little warmth with the sun bright in the sky already.
I was poking around this morning and found this GREAT recipe! While my husband hates pumpkin flavored foods and beverages I feel that it is a once a year thing and it gets me in the mood for the holidays - so WHY NOT?

I freeze bananas and use them in smoothies and to make a rich, thick "ice cream" for the kids. It is actually thick and rich (for a few minutes - better not let it sit - just eat immediately and say Mmmmm)!

Here's a seasonal, good looking treat using bananas and, yes, pumpkin - wow, it looks super tasty!

I took this from another woman on Pinterest - I did not make this one up - it is named after her:

Andrea’s Frozen Pumpkin Dessert
  • 4 Frozen bananas
  • 1/2C Pumpkin Puree
  • 1/2C-1C Vanilla Soymilk (or nondairy milk of choice, or milk)
  • 1/4tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4tsp Ground Clove
  • Pinch brown sugar (really small pinch)
Break frozen bananas up into chunks or at least cut them in half. In a food processor or heavy duty blender if you have it, add all ingredients. Start with 1/2 cup of the soymilk. Blend until smooth and creamy. You might want to start the process with a few pulses first and then let it go for a bit. If it starts getting too thick on you and won’t blend, add in some more of the soymilk. Slowly until it starts moving again and blending.
Dish up into ice cream bowls and serve immediately!

See what I mean - festive! I hope you make it with your family - it's a keeper!

Sneeze, sniff, sneeze, cough, sniff...

Okay, I'm sitting here listening to my daughter sneeze, sniff and cough - she happens to be hugging a cat named AXL and she cannot leave him alone! She's allergic, but we will take care of that with some remedies here at the house after she washes her hands, face and blows her nose!

Fall and winter bring on a different kind of sneeze and sniffle - it's cold and flu season after all! I'll tell you that this is the season that if you don't take good care of your body that it will retaliate! Sleep! Don't eat sugar, it will lower your immune system for over an hour after consumption!! If you are overworked and stressed, you better figure out how to give back to your body. I like to give back with boxing, or running or a long bubble bath with music and candles. You have your way, I have mine.

When their is boogers entering the house, or a neighbor kid coughing, OR a fever, which hasn't happened in a while here, I put an essential oil of oregano (mixed with olive oil) on the bottoms of the kids feet. They smell like a pizzeria but that's not too bad! I warm them up with broths and teas and cover them up to their chins and make them sleep. If they DO come down with something it really depends on the symptoms as to what I do next. Here is a medicine cabinet list that I have for my clients wanting to know what to do when and how often: (Scan down to Children's Medicine Cabinet - this is on the home page of my website)  Medicine Cabinet

As it gets colder outside I do not recommend this as a time to cleanse, BUT I do like to occasionally do a winter cleansing bath to move toxins out! The one that I love (it makes your skin really soft too) is 2 cups Epsom Salts, 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1 Tbsp of Ginger (from your cabinet in your kitchen) If you have a Pinterest account, you will love my Natural Path board. There is a detox bath section that gives great information! Here are my boards on Pinterest.com .  Just remember to drink a lot of fresh water - because the water you use will be hot! Because your skin is the largest eliminating organ of the body it WILL detox you and without enough water you will feel dizzy. I do a dry skin brush before getting in the tub and a loofah inside the tub to increase the exfoliation of dead skin cells. Enjoy!
